Atlanta Sport Flight, LLC, has taken delivery of a brand new CZAW SportCruiser light sport aircraft which is available for rental and instruction at Fulton County Field (FTY). With the SportCruiser aircraft, Atlanta Sport Flight will be able to offer the most cost-effective aircraft rental and pilot training in the Atlanta area. We can help you earn the Sport Pilot, Recreational Pilot, Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, and Certified Flight Instructor certificates. Our aircraft is the Czech Aircraft Works SportCruiser; an all metal, factory-built aircraft with modern "glass cockpit" instrumentation, GPS & VOR navigation, and a range of 600 miles! The SportCruiser belongs to a new class of aircraft, the Light Sport Aircraft, which is revolutionizing the flight training industry and dramatically cutting pilot training costs. Why will it cost less to train in our LSA? Read on to find out.
First, the ROTAX company has created a series of aircraft engines which are more fuel efficient, lighter, and simpler to operate than traditional aircraft engines. This means that their engines use less fuel, create more horsepower per pound, and require less training to operate. They have features not typically included on aircraft engines, like water-cooled heads, automatic altitude compensating carburetors, and electronic ignition to name a few. All of this means that you will save money by burning less fuel and save money by needing less training to operate the Rotax 912 engine. If you're into engines and want to learn more about Rotax engines now, check out the Rotax Owner Assistance Network to find manuals and video instruction for operation and maintenance.
The second development which is bringing down the cost of flying is the new set of rules that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) created in 2004 to define Light Sport Aircraft and govern their operation. To qualify as a Light Sport Aircraft, an airplane must be light-weight, not too fast, and easy to operate, so light sport aircraft are naturally less expensive and require less training to operate safely. The SportCruiser qualifies as a light sport aircraft but it is also wider and more comfortable than most other training aircraft and has advanced GPS navigation and flat-panel flight displays as well.
Coupled with the FAA's new Light Sport Aircraft rules are the new Sport Pilot rules. The new Sport Pilot certificate allows you to fly light sport aircraft in half the time and expense required to achieve the Private Pilot license! However, because there are fewer training requiremets there are also more restrictions on Sport Pilots. For example, as a Sport Pilot you won't be able to fly at night or at an altitude above 10,000 feet (almost two miles above sea level.) Since all of the training required for a Sport Pilot license also applies toward more advanced ratings, many sport pilots go on to fly bigger, faster, and more complex aircraft. (To see an overview of the the whole range of pilot licenses, go to this article.) If you want to go ahead and get a more advanced license, you can do that in the SportCruiser as well.
With our new SportCruiser aircraft and the Gliem Sport Pilot training syllabus, becoming a safe and proficient pilot is possible at about half cost of training at most flight schools. To see if you enjoy flying, call Atlanta Sport Flight or a flight school near you for a Discovery Flight. Most schools have a low, fixed rate for a fun flight that you can do in about an hour. It's a fun way to spend an afternoon and makes a great gift! PilotJourney.com has gift certificates, lists of flight schools nationwide, and a free Learn to Fly Kit to help you get started.
